Looking for inspiration: Economy of One
I'm looking for inspiration. Today is day nine of the $1000 experiment. I googled, "How to spend $9000" which lead me to a series in New York Magazine called Economy of One.
And there I found some inspiration.
Today. $9000 to spend joyfully.
First, before Passover starts next week, I'd like to take everyone out for Chicken Pot Pie at Jack's. I've been begging a certain someone to go all week and he doesn't have time, so I'll take everyone. And by everyone, I mean EVERYONE. I'm making a guest list of 50 people and everyone will have Chicken Pot Pie. That will be $747.50 on the pies, I'd guess another $300 on sodas, beers, and wine. Probably $200 on yummy desserts. Plus tax and tip--about $1617.00 on the bill. Well worth it. We will all roll out with full bellies (and probably to go boxes) and everyone will know how lovely the CPP is at Jack's.
Then in the morning, we'd all go somewhere for a fantastic brunch. Oooh. We'd go to 11 City Diner--the new Jewish place in the South Loop. We might have to go in shifts, I don't know that they seat 50 at once. That averages only $15/person. So with tip--that is $750 on Breakfast.
From there we will go to Millenium Park and rent Segway's for the day and race and race and race around the museum and park space in Chicago. That is $70/person. Assuming everyone participates, that will be $3500.
Our fantastic evening and day in the Chicago is now around $6017.00. (Maybe when it is time for my wedding, we'll just do this 24 hours of fun and somewhere along the way there will be a chuppah. Surprise! Wedding!)
We'll probably all need hot dogs and sodas right about now. I'd imagine that will be about $7.50 each. And then.... We'll go to the Shedd Aquarium! Why not! $1150 for 50 all access passes is totally reasonable.
From there? I have $1458 left. If I divide it up, it will be just under $30 a person. What can we do for $30 a person?
PEDICURES! We'll all get pedicures (yes, even the men) to soothe our tired feet. I made you walk a lot. Now we'll all get massages and our toenails painted lovely colors.
To wrap up our 18 hours of fun.
1. Chicken Pot Pie
2. Brunch at 11 City Diner
3. Segway Tour
4. Hot dogs & Soda
5. Shedd Aquarium
6. Pedicure
Sounds pretty great to me.
